Trick…or Treat?

Before I get started, let’s get things going with at weekend recap!

A friend of mine took this (much better looking) picture from Halloween so I thought I’d share.

Tami & Eric Taylor

The rest of my weekend was spent in front of this bad boy – hanging out and watching the Ravens pull out a W over the Cardinals. My football teams need to pull it together – my poor heart almost stopped from all the excitement this weekend!

Today also starts voting for the Baltimore Sun Mobbie awards. Just Call Me Janks is nominated in two categories: Best New Blog and Best Personal Blog. Voting occurs now until November 10th.

IF you’re so inclined, vote for both, one or none of these categories. I do have to say that it would be an awesome birthday present to find out that I won, though…

Happy Halloween 🙂

Sunday Slowdown

For being a snowy, yucky day yesterday, it sure was exhausting!

First, I made the decision to get my butt out of bed and go to my first pilates class. It was awesome – much better for me than yoga. I think that’s because I have a fairly strong core and the moves reminded me a bit of dance class. Yoga was just too much concentration for me, but that’s not saying I won’t give it another try!

After pilates, I gathered my things and headed over to the JA’s to watch Penn State pull out a nail-biting win over Illinois. With the win, JoePa has the most wins EVER for a Division 1 football coach. Congrats on 409, Joe!

After calming down and eating some glorious Ledo’s Pizza (pineapple and pepperoni – I’m telling you. It’s heaven), I had to do some last minute additions to the JA’s costume. We’re Eric and Tami Taylor from Friday Night Lights.

Hey Y'all

We went to a party where I had a few glasses of witches brew.

I was also one of the ‘tricks’ in trick or treating for the kids. Adults were given bags in which there were tricks or treats. Kids were instructed to blindly reach into the bag so that they were surprised at the result. With my bag containing spinach, I wasn’t too popular 😦

And now…for today. I was required to get up early to run errands and such while the JA tailgates for the Ravens game. Better get cracking if I want to watch the game!

Hopefully I can squeeze a nap in somewhere. I’m still a bit tired!

Hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday 🙂

The White Stuff

If you’re like me, that conjured up memories of NKOTB.

awesome 80’s video-ness

It’s snowing outside. On Halloween weekend. And it’s supposed to continue. Say what?! Ridiculousness.

Now, if you excuse me, I think it’s time I get Daddy Janks started on building a fire.

Happy Halloween weekend! Stay warm!

Feelin’ It

If you’ve been following along, you know this week was a stressful one. When that happens, I feel it coming. I feel it happening.

as always,click image for source

When I first start getting stressed, I the area at the base of my neck starts to tense. As the stress level rises, it spreads to my upper back and shoulders. And if it gets REALLY bad, its in all those areas plus my lower back.

Thank goodness next week is birthday/anniversary week. Massage therapist, you had best be ready for some stiff muscles!

When you get stressed, do you have any physical symptoms?

Author’s note: Yesterday’s post received a great deal of feedback, as I knew it would. It was not an easy subject to approach. However, it was meant in two ways: one, to speak on my experience about coming to terms with certain aspects of my life and two, to pay tribute to those who I know are dealing with the their mortality much more often than I am. Nothing more, nothing less. Thanks for reading.

Letting Go

For all those who are coming from Colleen’s post yesterday, welcome! I wanted to let you know that normally I’m pretty upbeat but sometimes….well, sometimes life gets in the way.
Letting go isn’t easy.

There are two people in my life who are affected by fatal illnesses: one will most certainly die within the next year and the other (I would like to think) has a nice, long life ahead of her.

I know that I will have to say goodbye to each of these people eventually. I don’t like to think about it. In general, I don’t think a lot of people like to think of losing people close to them.

Does that stop me from hoping that they will get better? No. Does it stop me from listening to them, helping them, and supporting them in their journey? No.

Yesterday, something happened that bruised one of these relationships. While sometimes you want to please someone as much as you can – a boss, a friend, a parent, a teacher, a coach, a sibling, a co-worker, sometimes you need to know and acknowledge your own limits. Sometimes it’s better to push through.

How do you know which one’s better for you at a given moment?

Fingers crossed, I will never have to deal with what these two are battling everyday. I don’t have the grace to handle the physical and mental struggles they face. I don’t know if I have the strength to fight for as long as they have.

Both of these people have impacted, and continue to impact, my life. They deserve all the love and support in the world. However, I needed to take a step back. To let go, if you will. To make sure that I’m taking care of myself so that I can be in the best position to give them everything that they each deserve.

It doesn’t make it any easier.

Strut Your Stuff

There are some luxuries about working in a predominantly male environment. One is that you can look as frumpy as you’d like and only a few people would notice. On the other hand, when you look cute, it’s sometimes difficult to find someone to appreciate your outfit!

That being said, when I put this outfit on yesterday, I knew it was an ‘I’m walking everywhere I can today’ sort of day. I work in the bottom of a building, so obviously the first thing that happened was to walk upstairs through the cafeteria to get coffee (even though I didn’t REALLY need it). Then, I stopped in the copy room where I knew one of the Executive Administrative Assistants would ooh and ahh over my wonderfully coordinated outfit.

After that, things got busy but we had some mom volunteers in who also mentioned how good my outfit looked. That, in addition to the responses from my Facebook post, helped make the decision to write this ‘fashion’ post.

Without further ado….

Please excuse the blurriness. Mommy J doesn’t do picture taking very well.

Earrings: Macys
Shirt: Express
Skirt: Gap Outlet
Watch: Fossil Stella
Bracelet: Smyth (similar)
Boots: Steve Madden Lakke

I’ve written about the boots before. I fell in love with them and am so glad I went back to make the purchase. They are perfect for the weather this week – cool in the morning, warm in the afternoon. Plus, they’re flat and super comfy.

Do you have an outfit that you feel deserves a strut? Please share!

It’s here.

I didn’t have a problem with my last phone, but when I found out I was eligible for an upgrade there was really no question. The JA upgraded his phone to the iPhone 4 early and I decided to get the 4S because, well, because why not?

It came yesterday. It took all the willpower I had to go to the gym after work. I came home and immediately fell in love.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some more conquering, err…exploring to do. If you don’t hear from me in a few days, you may need to come in and surgically remove this from my hand.

Any iPhone apps that are a must have?
